Last week, a group of technology professionals from the Des Moines community announced they're organizing a new event to kick off June 12: dsmHack a 48 hour hackathon to build technology solutions for up to six charities in the metro.

According to a release, the event will be "tech-agnostic" and the organizers are hoping to bring together "engineers, computer programmers, software developers and designers" from across the state to benefit the selected organizations.

A similar event, Operation Overnight, creates websites for five charities a year and is organized as an internal 24 hour hackathon by the team at Geonetric in Cedar Rapids. The third annual iteration of that event is planned for October.
